1/25/2012 Salt Springs Recreation Area Site 12, Salt Springs, FL

Salt Springs is a federal campground in the Ocala National Forest with paved, full hookup sites. Ours was a back in with a picnic table and fire ring and was just steps from the bath house. The bath house was spotless. There are nature trails, a primitive campground and the  Salt Springs in the park. There is also a marina nearby where you can launch a boat or rent one. There is a small grocery store and some restaurants in the town of Salt Springs. It is a short drive to either Ocala or Palatka for more shopping.

Our AT&T cell service did not work here. Verizon is a little better but very weak. There are two pay phones in the park. The park provides a list of libraries where WIFI is available.

A few of the sites can be reserved on the recreation.gov site for Salt Springs

1/19/2012 Midway Campground Site 13, Big Cypress Preserve, FL

Midway Campground is a federal campground in the Big Cypress Preserve located on the Tamiami Trail (Hwy 41). The campground is first come first served and fills up quickly during the winter months. The sites are paved, back in sites with electricity at the site. Each site has a picnic table and a fire pit. There is a dump station with fresh water - be sure to fill up your tank before setting up. The sites are in a loop around a small pond. There are bath houses but no showers. It was very quiet and peaceful and close to Everglades City and Shark Valley in the Everglades.

The cell service for AT&T is very weak here.

1/5/2012 Otter Springs Park and Campground, Trenton, FL Site 83

We had a large, dirt full hookup pull through site just a short walk from the springs. Our site had a picnic table and fire ring. Otter Springs Park and Campground is more than just an RV park. There are nature trails, an indoor swimming pool, a lodge, picnic area, two springs, and WIFI at the office. Everything was neat and clean and the office staff was very helpful. The nearest town is Chiefland where there are grocery stores, a Walmart, and a winery. Otter Springs is a short drive away from 2 state parks and several scenic drives. Although we were there during the winter busy season the park wasn't full.
