5/25/22 Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado Rapter Glen campground site 3

By far this is one of the nicest campgrounds, public or private, that we have stayed in. All the sites are paved, full hookup. The roads to the campground are paved. Our site was a big pull through with a few steps up to a patio area with picnic table, fire pit and tent area. We were right next to Cheyenne Mountain and had a fantastic view of the city of Colorado Springs. There is a nice camp store, laundry, and bath house. The campground is an easy drive to Pike’s Peak, Garden of the Gods and other attractions in the Colorado Springs area. There is a Safeway 2 miles from the campground.

5/23/11 San Luis Lakes State Park, Mosca, Colorado Site 1

This state park is located about 15 miles from the Great Sand Dunes National Monument. Our site was a large dirt and gravel pull through with covered picnic table and fire pit. There is electric only at the site. You have to fill your fresh water at one of the water spigots located throughout the campground. The water had a funky smell. We didn't have reservations so we picked our site and then registered at the office. The rangers were very helpful. From our campsite we had views of the lake, the Sangre de Christo mountains, and the Great Sand Dunes. We did not use the bath houses so we can't comment on them. The dump station is conveniently located on the way out of the campground.
The views from the campground are beautiful. There is a nice lake in the park and a boat ramp. It is a short drive to visit the Great Sand Dunes National Monument. The nearest grocery store is about 15 miles away.

This is a very nice KOA located north of Albuquerque in Bernalillo on I-25.  Our site was a gravel pull through with full hookups and free WIFI. The landscaping is well maintained with nice flower beds. There are 2 fenced in dog runs, a pool, playground, laundry room, and horseshoe pits. Everything is clean and well maintained. There are several restaurants in Bernalillo and Albuquerque is about a 20 minute drive. There is a grocery store and a Walmart in nearby Bernalillo.

5/18/11 Santa Rosa Campground, Santa Rosa, New Mexico Site 32

This is a former KOA and the sites are dirt and gravel. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a full hookup pull through. The campground is located on Historic Route 66 and is easy on and off of I-40. There is a camp store and gift shop with souvenirs. We did not use the laundry or bath house. There is a pool and a barbeque restaurant on site. Good for an overnight stay.

5/16/11 Amarillo Ranch RV Park, Amarillo, TX Site 136

We stayed at the park 4 years ago and decided to stay again mainly to eat at the Big Texan about a mile away. We paid the Passport America rate of $16.50. Our site was a pull through but we were nose to nose with another rig. We had to back out when we left. The site is level, mostly dirt with a little gravel with full hookups, cable, and free WIFI. There is an indoor pool and laundry at the park. The bath house and laundry were very clean. It is conveniently located just off I-40 and we can hear the traffic go by. There is a Walmart close by. A nice day trip is to Palo Duro Canyon. Be sure to eat at the Big Texan and to go to Cadillac Ranch.

5/14/11 Copper Breaks State Park, Quanah, TX Site 4

This park is located about 15 miles south of Hwy 287 west of Wichita Falls. We were arriving on a Saturday so we called ahead to see if we needed reservations and they told us to just come on. We checked in at the office and the rangers were very helpful and assigned us a site we would fit in. Our site is a 40 foot level back in site with water and electric. The pad is gravel with the rest of the site grass. The picnic table and grill are on a paved pad under a roof. There is also a fire pit which we couldn’t use because of a fire ban. Behind our site are Mesquite, Juniper and other trees. The park has an interesting history and badland type bluffs along the river. Definitely a hidden gem in Texas. The highlight of our stay was seeing their herd of Texas Longhorns.

5/12/11 Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park, Terrell, TX Site 50

We stayed here 5 years ago on our first RV trip and wanted to return. It is just as nice as we remembered. Our site was a level, gravel pull through with plenty of room between our site and neighbors on either side. We had full hookups with free WIFI, cable and a picnic table on a paved pad. There is a nice laundry and the bathrooms are spotless. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Amenities include a pool, a small lake with catch and release fishing, and a fenced in dog play area which our dog loved. The park is nicely landscaped and very well maintained. I give it a 10.

5/10/11 Lake Bistineau State Park, Doyline, LA Site 12

We didn’t have reservations and asked the ranger for a lakefront premium site. Our site was a long, paved back in site with water and electric. Each site has a wooden deck. The picnic table, fire ring and grill are on the ground. There was plenty of space between us and the neighboring campsites. We had a beautiful view of the lake. Our site was right next to one of the fishing docks on the lake. There is a boat ramp and playground in the park. The bath house was very clean. We really enjoyed our stay here.

5/8/11 Ameristar RV Park, Vicksburg, MS Site 39

We stayed in this park in 2006 on our way west and decided to stay here again. The park is part of the Ameristar Casino. All the sites are pull throughs with concrete pads, full hookups including free WIFI at the site. We were on the end of one of the rows in the back and had a tree which provided shade for our picnic table. Most of the sites had no shade. Our site was close to the train tracks so we could hear them as they went by. We like to hear the train so it was not a problem. There is a nice laundry with 2 washers and 2 dryers and a free shuttle to the casino. It is a short drive to the Vicksburg National Military Park.

5/6/11 Six Mile Creek COE, Selma, AL Site 6

We had a long, level back-in gravel site with water and electric hookups. The sites also have fire rings and picnic tables. The campground is wooded and many trees are  covered with beautiful Spanish Moss. The dump station is conveniently located on the way out of the campground. Our site was right on the Alabama River. We had a nice view of the river out our back window. The bathhouse was clean with one washer and dryer. There is a boat ramp and playground in the campground. There is also a day use area with picnic tables. There is a Walmart and other shopping several miles away in Selma.
Our AT&T cell service did not work at our campsite. Our neighbor with Verizon wireless had good service. We were able to get a good DirecTV signal.
